South India’s Daily Wagers need our help https://drikung-europe.org/daily-wagers/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=daily-wagers Mon, 04 May 2020 17:11:46 +0000 https://drikung-europe.org/?p=7337

In South India, among those most affected by the pandemic are the daily wagers. They have lost their jobs and are facing immense difficulty in surviving without transportation, food and medicines during the current lockdown. Most daily wagers make only $8 per day when they are working.

Ayang Rinpoche is initiating a charity program to distribute food to these poorest families. In this way, the monastery and Drikung Charitable Society can make sure the daily wagers receive necessities directly into their hands.

If you, or any of Rinpoche’s students and their friends and families, would like to join in this food distribution initiative, you are welcome to donate either through the world-wide Amitabha Foundations or directly to the monastery’s account. They would appreciate receiving the funds by May 3. (Later transferred donations are most welcome too and very helpful.)

Your can make an offering through the account of Amitabha Foundation Germany. You may make a one-time or recurring gift of any amount, or at one of the suggested levels:

  • $24 for 3 day’s wages
  • $56 for one week’s wages
  • $240 for one month’s wages

Rinpoche welcomes you to include names for dedication. Please use the field in the payment to include your names.

May all beings benefit by our generosity!

Show Your Love Through Giving

Fundraising for Tso Pema: A Community in Need of Food

Dear Dharma brothers and sisters,

We all are in the midst of unprecedented times which have inflicted much suffering due to COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the hard lockdown controls in India, many people are suffering because they are not able to earn daily wages to put food on their table and situation continues to become dire.

In order to combat the sufferings inflicted by COVID-19, Ontul Rinpoche’s monastery is planning on providing a basic food package to each needy family; local poor Indians and Tibetans (monks and lay man) who are under the poverty line. The cost of food package estimated at Rs800 which is around $11 that will serve 1 week of meal to all local residents of Tso Pema. With more than 200 people in the monastery’s area including Tibetans, local Indians and migrant workers, the cost of the food to last for a week is about $2200. Also, the Rinpoches (Ontul Rinpoche and his son Ratna Rinpoche) will be giving monetary donation to the local organization that will help people in crisis due to the COVID-19.

The long-term goal of the monastery would be to provide masks, hand sanitizers and other basic needs to Tso Pema residents who have become victims of the pandemic. The local residents of Tso Pema have minimal support and this contribution will bring immense value.

Support for the monastery

Also, Ontul Rinpoche’s monastery in Tso Pema, India is also facing many challenges. The day to day monastery operation is directly dependent on the income raised by café, small shop, guest houses, butter lamp offering and offering of pujas to the monks, however due to lock down everything has come to a standstill. The monastery’s Net Income was between Rs 50,000 to 60,000 for the month of December and January (peak season) but in the month of February was Rs 500 only due to the severe lockdown measures. There are more than 60 people including monks, nuns and lay people that live in the monastery.

Therefore, I am taking this initiative to contact all disciples, friends and those who are connected to Ontul Rinpocheto come forward with any donations that will go directly to much needed people in Tso Pema.

How to donate:

  • If you wish to send the donation directly to the monastery, please find the bank account details here (please mention the purpose as “COVID19 welfare measures”)
  • In Europe you can transfer your donation to the account of Lotussee Drikung Dharma Center in Hamburg, Germany
Please write an email to lotusseehamburg@web.de for the bank details.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this email and prayers to you and your family from this pandemic.

Wangchuk Lhamo (daughter of Drikung Lho Ontul Rinpoche)

Under the auspicious guidance of H.E. Lho Ontul Rinpoche and Ratna Rinpoche la, the Drikung Kagyu Monastery at Tsopema (Rewalsar) has initiated the Covid19 Welfare Measures with the aim of providing help to the vulnerable daily workers from other states, poor local Indians and Tibetans living in and around Tsopema (Rewalsar).

On the 2nd of May, H.E. Lho Ontul Rinpoche la blessed the Covid19 Welfare Measures with his presence along with the Chairman and the Secretary of Rewalsar Municipality.

The Drikung Covid19 Welfare Measures has so far successfully distributed 3060 kilograms of essential food items to 170 families. Each of the needy family received 18 kilograms of Rice, Flour, lentil, Onions, Potatoes, cooking oil, Salt, Sugar, Tea and Milk.

Meditation practice against the pandemic by H.H. Drikung Kyabgon Tinle Lhundup (+Parnashavari text download) https://drikung-europe.org/parnashavari/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=parnashavari Mon, 13 Apr 2020 06:39:40 +0000 http://testbk.drikung-europe.org/?p=7164

Announcement of H.H. Drikung Kyabgon Thinley Lhundup –

Due to the worldwide outbreak of the Corona virus (COVID-19) I contact all Drikung Kagyü monasteries and centers as well as ordained and lay practitioners with the request to practice the Dakini Parnashavari daily and to recite the mantra. She is the highest mother of all Buddhas and appears in this form to pacify diseases. Some time ago I published the very short Sadhana of Dakini Parnashavari. Today I would like to present this new compilation of the practice of Dakini Parnashavari from the collected works of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgön. Even the verses in this work are quotes of his writings.

If you want to learn more about the Kalash Sadhana by Dakini Parnashavari, you can search for it in the collected works of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgön. I request that this Sadhana will be translated into as many languages as possible so that it can spread far and wide. This practice requires that everyone practices it with love and compassion.

I pray that this practice will quickly overcome all the negative deeds and obstacles of both the deceased and the living and will quickly establish them in enlightenment.

Konchok Tenzin Kunzang Thinley Lhundup, better known as Gyalwa Drikungpa, on the 16th day of the first Tibetan month of the Iron Mouse Year (March 10, 2020), Escondido, USA.

Vikramashila Research and Translation Project
under the Guidance of Khenchen Nyima Gyaltsen Rinpoche

One of the most important projects of the Garchen Foundation is to support scientific research projects in the field of Tibetan Buddhism. The goal is mainly the promotion of text projects, i.e. the translation and printing of ancient Tibetan Buddhist teaching and prayer texts.

Khenchen Nyima Gyaltsen Rinpoche, since 2008 Dharma Teacher at the Kagyu College in Dehradun/ India, was enthroned by H.H. the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang in 2013 as Khenpo Tripa, supreme teacher of all Drikung monasteries in the exile. In the coming years Khenchen Nyima Gyaltsen Rinpoche will lead in the Milarepa Retreat Center the text projects of the Vikramashila Translation Committee and provide the necessary teachings for the understanding of these ancient writings. The focus will initially be on writings that were written by Phagmodrupa and by the founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage, Kyobpa Jigten Sumgön, and also by his immediate disciples in the 13th Century. These texts are available so far only in the Tibetan original, but not in Western languages and therefore they are still completely unknown to most Buddhists in the western world.

More information regarding the Vikramashila Translation Project you can find in this
PDF broschure (download) and on www.garchen-stiftung.de

H.E. Garchen Rinpoche asks us to practice Green Tara https://drikung-europe.org/h-e-garchen-rinpoche-asks-us-to-practice-green-tara/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=h-e-garchen-rinpoche-asks-us-to-practice-green-tara Thu, 26 Mar 2020 12:55:15 +0000 https://drikung-europe.org/?p=7302

H.E. Garchen Rinpoche asks us to recite early in the morning the short „Green Tara Practice“ and to dedicate for example like this:

Dedication

Just as the previous Bhagavan buddhas have perfectly dedicated, just as the future Bhagavan buddhas will perfectly dedicate, and just as the present Bhagavan buddhas perfectly dedicate, like that I too dedicate perfectly.

I confess each and every wrong-doing and rejoice in all merit. I urge and supplicate to all the buddhas: May I attain the highest, most sublime primordial wisdom!

With my palms joined together I wholeheartedly take refuge in all those who possess qualities as vast as an infinite ocean: to the buddhas, the best of humans, who are living in the present, those who have lived in the past, and likewise, those who will come.

This is the supreme dedication and it also includes refuge. It is endowed with great blessings as it was spoken by the Buddha himself.

Garchen Rinpoche’s message regarding his month-long retreat starting March 16 https://drikung-europe.org/garchen-rinpoches-message/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=garchen-rinpoches-message Wed, 25 Mar 2020 17:03:24 +0000 https://drikung-europe.org/?p=7251

Even though I will be in retreat for a month, people can still listen to my teachings. Since I will be meditating in retreat, my mind merges into one with anyone else who is meditating too. The meditative state is the state of all the buddhas’ mind—they are always resting in the natural condition of the mind. When you meditate, you become one with my mind and the mind of all the buddhas—you become one with the space-like nature of mind that transcends birth and death. So don’t think that because I’m in retreat that I’m gone. Whenever you meditate we are together.

Whatever virtue you practice, there are many dedication prayers to dedicate these virtues. Often people request lamas to preform dedication prayers on their behalf. Actually, there is no need to ask for this because you should recite these dedication prayers yourself.

At the end of the Sūtra of the Three Heaps there is a dedication prayer that is concise yet complete in meaning; it can easily be recited by anyone. I encourage you to recite this as a dedication prayer whenever you engage in practice:

  • Just as the previous Bhagavan buddhas have perfectly dedicated, just as the future Bhagavan buddhas will perfectly dedicate, and just as the present Bhagavan buddhas perfectly dedicate, like that I too dedicate perfectly.
  • I confess each and every wrong-doing and rejoice in all merit. I urge and supplicate to all the buddhas: May I attain the highest, most sublime primordial wisdom!
  • With my palms joined together I wholeheartedly take refuge in all those who possess qualities as vast as an infinite ocean: to the buddhas, the best of humans, who are living in the present, those who have lived in the past, and likewise, those who will come.
  • This is the supreme dedication and it also includes refuge. It is endowed with great blessings as it was spoken by the Buddha himself.

All the disciples—we are always together. Buddha is like a big tree. The tree knows that its branches and leaves belong to him. Some branches break and some dry out; these are the many sentient beings who experience suffering. Some branches know that they belong to one single tree; these are those beings who understand Buddha. These branches will not dry out. For as long as you believe, “I am a separate individual,” you will be controlled by karma and afflictive emotions and thus you become like dry or broken tree branch. Some of the branches of a tree dry out, while other branches blossom with flowers and leaves. When you realize the view of Mahāmudrā, you know, “We are all branches of the same Buddha tree. The basis of our mind is one and the same.” Saṃsāra and nirvāṇa have a single basis, which is like the trunk of a tree. This knowledge is referred to as “meditating in the state of Mahāmudrā.” Meditation means to look at the nature of your mind, and cultivating love and compassion, untainted by self-grasping, is the cause of becoming a Buddha. The Buddha said: “All sentient beings are actually buddhas.” When you understand this, you have understood the view of Mahāmudrā. Then you will understand that, as it is said in the Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva, “the way things appear is one’s own mind.”

Many Tashi Delek to everyone!

Garchen Rinpoche, March 16, 2020, Chino Valley, USA

Samtenling Nunnery 2019 – their report and your support https://drikung-europe.org/brief-report-of-samtenling-nunnery-2019/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=brief-report-of-samtenling-nunnery-2019 Mon, 09 Mar 2020 12:50:04 +0000 http://testbk.drikung-europe.org/?p=6995

We have a total of 100 nuns now, fourteen nuns from the ages of 19 to 41 joined the nunnery from Dolpo village on the Tibet/Nepal border few months back. They had not studied earlier so they are beginning from primary classes. They seemed a little lost in the beginning but they are now well settled.

Fourteen young nuns from the ages of 8 to 14 arrived between two to three years. Of which one was taken back back by her parents. They had all come from the plains of Nepal. They are very happy here and doing well with their studies.

Some of our nuns attended a debate at the Sakya college, one older nun represented us during the Senior Lama’s meeting at Dharamsala. A group of eight nuns went to Vana Center to perform Kunrig prayers and Choe. This was attended by about fifty Indians and Westerners. Two nuns went to Kirti Monastery in Dharamsala to attend a teacher’s training workshop.

On the whole the nuns are studying dharma, Hindi, Maths, English and social studies. We now have eight nun teachers with Acharya diplomas who are teaching at Samtenling. The office Director and Secretary are both nuns. Two Acharya nuns went out of the nunnery to pursue further studies.

One nun completed her yoga course and is a yoga teacher now. Another nun completed a thanka painting course and she too received her diploma. They both returned to Samtenling and will take work from outside for income generating for the nunnery. Former secretary Acharya Kunsang plans to attend the USA fellowship, so Acharya Yeshi, who has returned from a one year Fellowship course in USA has taken her post.

Eleven Retreat nuns came out of their three years, three months retreat to offer Dechok fire puja for two weeks. These days they are out of retreat for the Tibetan New Year holidays. They all kept in good health.

As earlier we have the retreat, the college section, monastery section and primary school.

We are very happy that all is fine and the nuns are keeping well and studying well. We are always grateful to our sponsors for your support.

Thank you and good wishes,
Director Kunsang Dolma and Secretary Yeshe

Sponsorship and support

If you like to support Samtenling nunnery, the main nunnery of Drikung lineage in exil, with a donation, it will have a great benefit for the development of nuns. It helps to cover food and education expenses, so that the nuns can study and practice well, in the same way as the monks do.
You can transfer your contribution to the account of the Drikung Center in Aachen, Germany with the purpose “Samtenling nunnery”.

It is possible to take a sponsorship for a nun. 40 € are necessary to cover the monthly costs for education, food, accomodation and health care. If you are interested please contact the Drikung Center in Aachen, Germany.
